OUR MISSION

GIVING HOPE TO THOSE WHO NEED IT MOST

ORPHANAGE – A NOBLE CAUSE

Our experience and observations in Madagascar have shown that children in this country are severely marginalised due to poverty. Statistics show that over 60% of the children do not attend school and child labour is still a common phenomenon even today.

Young girls have a higher susceptibility of not receiving an education, as they are forced to marry at a young age. More often than not, they are then neglected by their partner and are left to rear their children alone, engaging in hard manual labour ton earn a living.

Unfortunately, young girls that are orphaned or that come from problematic families see no future for themselves and become victims of child exploitation.

Our conscience and Christian responsibility does not allow us to ignore this tremendous social problem that surrounds us. It is for this reason that we were motivated to build an orphanage/hostel for girls.

The aim of this project is to raise and protect parentless children, or children that come from problematic families in a safe, Christian environment – providing them holistic care both on a material and spiritual/psychological level. This offers them an education that is due to every child despite their race, colour or creed.

SCHOOLS – FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

We operate 16 schools free of charge (primary and secondary) and one university. Approximately 600 scholarships (including scholarships for tertiary level education) are granted each year to students all over the island. Three sewing schools have also been established to train young women in the profession so that they may ultimately be self-employed and independent.

NURSING HOME – A LOVING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE TIRED AND WEARY

The Orthodox Metropolis of Madagascar currently cares for 13 elderly people and individuals with disabilities free of charge, providing them with shelter, food, medical care and love.

MEDICAL CLINICS – HOPE FOR BETTER HEALTH

Our mission runs 4 medical clinics providing free medical care to the underprivileged. Services provided include:

  • General Pathology,
  • Ophthalmology,
  • Dentistry,
  • Gynecology,
  • Ultrasound,
  • Pharmacy and Microbiology

We also provide financial assistance to individuals from low socio-economic backgrounds to undergo surgical procedures in state hospitals.

MILK AND BISCUITS PROGRAM AND FOOD RATIONS – A CHANCE FOR SURVIVAL

Many villages in the South of the island are affected by drought. Our Metropolis gives new hope to whole communities by building water reservoirs and transporting clean drinking water to over 7 villages in the Tulear region on a monthly basis.

INFANT HOME – A SAFE HAVEN

Poverty has forced many young women to abandon their new-born infants in hospitals or on rubbish heaps simply because they cannot afford to feed them. This has led us to build a home for infants wereby unwanted or neglected babies are able to receive the necessary care they require.

BECOME A VOLUNTEER

The mission requires practical, hands-on help from overseas volunteers in order to assist the dynamic philanthropic programs that it runs. Volunteers can become involved in any of the projects ranging from health and education to distribution of survival items and parish visits in rural areas.
